Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev has said that Russian-born mercenaries fighting among terror groups abroad will pose a serious threat if they go back to their home country.
"We need to take under special control the threat carried by militants returning from hotspots, who were taking part in conflicts on the side of terror groups. It is no secret that a lot of mercenaries of Russian origin are today fighting among the ranks of these gangs," Patrushev said at a meeting with officials in Pyatigorsk on Wednesday.
"Upon return to their home country they could bring to our land sophisticated terror skills, including those typical of the group which refers to itself as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant but has nothing to do with Islam," the security council secretary said.
